Tracing Lower Cretaceous organic-rich units across the SW Barents Shelf

چکیده
On the Barents Shelf, northernmost and least explored hydrocarbon province of Norwegian Continental Upper Jurassic organic-rich shales have traditionally been given most attention as these represent prolific source rock unit region. However, in western frontier areas is too deeply buried. By combining high-resolution 2D seismic data, well logs, digitalized Rock-Eval this study documents lateral distribution variability alternative units within Lower Cretaceous succession on SW Shelf. Negative high-amplitude anomalies are traced from shallow basins platform westward into deeper along shelf margin. The tied to intervals increased total organic carbon contents several exploration wells, we thus establish presence four potential units; (1) upper Hauterivian, (2) Barremian, (3) lower Aptian, (4) Cenomanian units. Based associated anomalies, infer that deposition preservation coupled localized, fault bounded depocenters, mainly controlled by Late – Early rifting local reactivation events. Aptian stands out significant unit, particularly Fingerdjupet Subbasin, where it displays a kerogen Type II composition. development oil-prone linked an early event. Due sediment influx combination with high subsidence rates during Albian Cenomanian, pre-Aptian appear undergone deep burial Tromsø Bjørnøya be presently generative. Furthermore, matter dilution due sedimentation seems reduced overall unit.

Shallow Gas Analysis in Skrugard Area, SW Barents Sea
In 2011, Skrugard discovery made an explorational breakthrough in the south-western Barents Sea. Earlier this year, Havis discovery (well 7220/7-1) was found in the same area. Both two discoveries are found in the same production license. The double flat spots were found in both Skrugard and Harvis discoveries. However, there are many dry wells in the same area before these two discoveries. The...
متن کاملNew Ophthalmosaurid Ichthyosaurs from the European Lower Cretaceous Demonstrate Extensive Ichthyosaur Survival across the Jurassic–Cretaceous Boundary
BACKGROUND Ichthyosauria is a diverse clade of marine amniotes that spanned most of the Mesozoic. Until recently, most authors interpreted the fossil record as showing that three major extinction events affected this group during its history: one during the latest Triassic, one at the Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary (JCB), and one (resulting in total extinction) at the Cenomanian-Turonian boundary...
متن کاملGlobal comparisons of organic matter in sediments across the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary
A~tract--The Cretaceous/Tertiary (K/T) boundary is marked by extensive changes in the sedimentary fossil record of continental and marine life. Organic matter in sediments from above and below the K/T boundary has been studied to identify consequences of the biotic extinctions and of the changes in biological productivity which occurred at this time. Data from locations encompassing a variety o...

متن کاملMicrobiostratigraphy of the Lower Cretaceous strata from South East of Maragheh, NW Iran
For the microbiostratigraphical studies, a stratigraphical section (named Dareh-Goshayesh) has been selected in southeast of Maragheh, Northwestern Iran. The thickness of successions in the selected stratigraphic section is measured about 223.6 m. The mentioned studied stratigraphic section is composed of two clastic and carbonate units. This succession unconformably overlies the Lar Formation ...
